Julianne Pachico, a creative writing lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University wrote the collection named "The Lucky Ones" and is now shortlisted for the award, being held at the London Library.

"It feels very exciting to be shortlisted. The best part has been the opportunity to meet the other authors and get to know them."

Within the collection she has a story called "Lucky" which is about a young girl left alone in her house over the weekend, who receives a visit from a man who may or may not be a danger to her. Julianne has said "This story was inspired by a story that I heard when I was very young, at a sleepover with friends."

The winner of The Sunday Times "Young Writer Of The Year Award" will receive a £5,000 reward and other nominated writers include Sara Taylor, Claire North and Sally Rooney.

"It's always fun to meet other writers in person. Writing can be quite a solitary business and it's always enjoyable to get out and about"

Her stories have been published in many publications such as Shooter Literary Magazine and The New Yorker. This year has been a great one for Julianne, as she has made her debut with her collection and also been nominated for two awards.

As well as being a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam, she is also completing her PHD in creative and critical writing.

The London Library reception will be held on the 7th December.
