Installation of a new bus lane on Chesterfield Road has caused mayhem for local businesses.

Since July, the main road has been a site of road works, builders and barriers causing major traffic disruptions and difficulties for hopeful shoppers.

Local business owners are now expressing their anger at the Council as many claim they were left in the dark regarding the plans.

Richard Storf owner of The Log Shop says, "I'm disappointed, we had no consultation at all. It's also causing big issues for our customers, people don't know if they can park outside or not."

Despite being aware of the possibility of a bus lane, Richard says he was never made aware of the installation of the barriers directly outside his shop, which he claims has affected his business.

However Sheffield City Council has since responded with a statement saying the bus lane is a necessity if Sheffield is to improve the air pollution in the City.

Councillor Jack Scott, Cabinet Member for Transport and Sustainability said, "This strategy articulates a clear and compelling vision for cleaner air in Sheffield. I recognise some of the solutions to our air quality challenge may not be easy, cheap or popular - but they are required."

Cllr. Scott also claimed that the notices of work were posted both online and in the press therefore notification requirements were complied with.

The scheme and streets core maintenance work is set to be completed in summer this year.
