Ever wondered what Sheffield looks like from the sky? Well that’s exactly what Joe Anderson aims to showcase. His YouTube channel appropriately titled Sheffield form above allows us to see just that with views of Sheffield's landscapes ranging from Bradway, Chelsea Park and Millhouses Park to name a few.

His channel which currently has a small subscriber count at 22 is picking up on views with his most viewed video titled 'Blacka Moor - Sheffield' currently having around 1.3k views. With this potential reach to grow and the popularity of YouTube as a platform Joe is excited by the possibilities of his new found hobby.

"Sheffield has a lot of open spaces with some great views that you wouldn’t normally be able to see, and I don't see why I couldn’t film further out in the future".

Joe uses a high tech Phantom 3 Standard drone from DJI store (pictured below)

The equipment is nowhere near cheaply priced at £509 but Joe is confident in his flight skills.

Some viewers have pointed out the concern that Joe may not be able to film in some of the locations legally. Sheffield council's website states the following: "Drones may not be flown from or above Council land without permission granted by us".

According to the Air Navigation Order 2009 certain guidelines must be met when flying drones

  • Must not fly your drone above an altitude of 400ft

  • Your drone must always be under your control, within line of sight and within 500m horizontally

  • You may not fly anywhere near an airport or airfield, or any other aircraft

  • Don’t fly over congested areas such as streets, towns and cities

  • If your drone has a camera, you can’t fly closer than 50m to people, vehicles or buildings, unless you have permission and all people and vehicles you’re flying near are under your control

Therefore Joe has to ensure he asks permission and keeps within guidelines for his videos before filming in order to avoid fines up to £2,500.
