Christmas is finished, the New Year has begun and there's nothing to do but sit and be glum...

Well don't worry because we've come up with a few ideas to help you get the best start to 2018!

1. Get active

Before you click off in disgust hear me out. Exercise is great for you, both mentally and physically! You can get rid of all the extra food you've eaten over the Christmas period, feel refreshed and good about yourself and it gets you out of the house.

You don't have to join the expensive gyms with all the other resolution newbies! You can go for a walk around your local park or even jog to the shop. But whatever you do just make sure you GET MOVING!

2. Eat healthy

Eating healthy comes with a stereotype that you have to wake up to a fresh smoothie, drink fruit infused water all day, fall in love with avocados and say goodbye to chocolate (the horror). But eating healthy can be anything from cutting out snacks throughout the day, reducing your alcohol intake or swapping that bag of crisps for a piece of fruit instead. Small steps take you to the best places sometimes. Making a small change is better than doing nothing at all. Plus you're sure to start feeling better about yourself too!

3. Start a diary

No not one of those high school diaries that hide all your crushes and deepest darkest secrets, but more of a lifestyle journal. Speaking from experience writing stuff down helps sometimes and if you ever have a rough day twice, its good to read back on how you made it the first time! Life’s little positives ey! You can also keep track of your diet, exercise, daily quotes and happy times... get creative.

4. Make some goals

I know some people can find resolutions cringey or a waste of time..."why wait to start on January 1st when you can start now?"

But lets just ignore those people for this one. Having goals in life is great and what better time to start than on the first day of the year? A hole 365 days to better yourself or do something you've always dreamed of. Not every goal needs to be huge like sky diving or climbing up a mountain, look deeper at the little things like having a conversation with a stranger or loving yourself a little bit more. The importance with goals is not to make them too big that they begin to look impossible but to break them down and work your way through them.

5. Stop searching for happiness

What even is happiness anyway? Winning the lottery? or owning that expensive car?

If you spend your days constantly trying to achieve 'happiness' I can guarantee you're never going to find it... sorry! If you're constantly focusing on the future and what 'might' be, you're not in the present and paying attention to now. The only way to really find that feeling of happiness is to just enjoy today. That's what really matters.
