Over one quarter of university students stay at home and travel in to their classes during their first year at university. Whether it’s because of money, health or they’re simply just not ready to move away from home, does this mean they don’t get to experience university in the fullest?
Poppy Huskinson, 19 has to catch the train three days a week to get to her university Sheffield Hallam.
“It has been extremely hard for me so far. I had to go through clearing to get to Sheffield Hallam so I missed out on the chance to get into halls. I’ve managed to make friends though and I’m trying hard to make sure I don’t miss out too much.”

Although living in halls or a house with friends is great for creating friendships and enjoying fresher’s week, not everyone has that opportunity. But does that mean that they’re missing out?
Poppy has said that she feels like she has missed out on some aspects of university life but will make sure that she gets to experience it to the full next year.
“Next year I and my three friends are going to get a house. I’ll be able to experience all the opportunities because I won’t have to travel back and forth all the time.”
